These poems I can't stand

There are songs that can extract tears from stones,
poems that cause dams to tumble and the water to flood
the surface of my face.
The loneliness of living alone.
I still look for her.
In dreams of my sleep, in faces on the subways and in songs.
I imagine, selfishly,
she would look up and realize who loved her best.
And I would stand granite like, shades over my eyes and pretend she was not there.
All the While inside me,
my soul cries and kicks Like a wild bird caged in my chest,
trying to be let out.
These poems I can't stand,
because they always make me fall.

Black Mariah -song

Oh black Mariah
Take me home today
Oh black Mariah
Take me home today
Take me home where I feel no hurt
Where mamas waiting
With a hot bath and a clean shirt
Lay me down my head to rest
On soft pillowy breasts
He's put down his head - eulogy
he put down his anger
He put down his pain
he put down his ego
He laid down his worries
He laid down his wants
He laid down his guitar
He laid down his head
He shut down the shop
He shut down the shutters
He shut down the shades
He shut down his head
He closed the door
He closed the book
He closed the box
He closed his eyes
His casket is now closed
Oh black Mariah
Take me home today
Oh black Mariah
Take me home today
Take me home where I feel no hurt
Where mamas waiting
With a hot bath and a clean shirt
Lay me down my head to rest
On soft pillowy breasts

Haiku

A street-full of cars
Going somewhere but nowhere
Frozen metal stream

Don't cast nets too far

don't cast nets too far
in the sea of life.
For fear You might loose them.
and make the shore empty handed only to find no supper to feed your hungry soul again
And thru the vast ruff waves and depth of the future
set sail for courses unknown.

Mothers tether

Mothers tether,
From before the light of birth
we are attached.
A connection that
Is both invisible and invincible.
It knows no distance.
Pull it, there is no break.
And if lost
the tether will lead you home again.
Mother's tether,
Broadcaster of scraped
Knees and broken hearts
She stands poised
spider like
To ward off the shadow beasties that haunts our childhood dreams.
And as the dusk of mother's light
fades into a blue velvet night,
the tether will never break
Mother's tether
Sinewy cord attached
To loves martyred heart.
